Govt launches Tree Bank program

TEMANGGUNG: The office of the State Minister of the Environment launched on Friday its Tree Bank program to replant barren land across the country.

Environment minister Nabiel Makarim kicked off the program by planting seedlings in Temanggung, Central Java, one of the areas to be reforested in the drive.

The program, which targets planting 40,000 trees to reforest 100 hectares of barren land, involves the government, the private sector, non-governmental organizations and local people.

The office of the state minister collects seeds from private companies or non-governmental organizations and distributes them to the local people.

The program would be monitored directly by the State Ministry for the Environment, in cooperation with local administrations. -- Antara.
