Govt drafting teachers' ethics code

JAKARTA: The Ministry of National Education and the Indonesian Teachers Union (PGRI) are drafting a code of ethics for teachers to follow up a government policy that recognizes teaching as a profession.

"The ministry, the PGRI, academics and other experts are drawing up the draft. Hopefully, it will be completed soon," Soewondo, the ministry's director general of elementary and secondary education said on Thursday.

Separately, director general of higher education Satryo Soemantri Brodjonegoro said the president would issue a decree confirming teaching as a professional occupation.

He added the government would also draft a certification scheme and competence standard for teachers. -- Antara
