Governor Sutiyoso reshuffles city officials

Governor Sutiyoso shook up his administration on Thursday moving 27 officials out of their key positions in a bid to improve public services in the capital.

Eight of the 27 officials were replaced as they have already reached retirement age, while the remainder were promoted.

Among officials who got promoted included City Spatial Agency head Nurfakih Wirawan, who was appointed as Assistant to City Secretary for Development Affairs. His new office is in charge of supervising infrastructure projects in the capital.

Agencies under Nurfakih's supervision include the City Transportation Agency, City Public Works Agency, City Sanitation Agency, City Spatial Agency, City Mining Agency, City Environment Management Body (BPLHD) and City Street Lighting Agency.

Nurfakih replaced Hari Sandjojo, who moved to his new position as assistant to city secretary for financial affairs, which was previously held by Deden Supriyadi. Deden is now an assistant to the city secretary for economic affairs.

Another new official was Wishnu Subagio Yusuf, who was appointed as head of Public Works Agency. He will be responsible for construction and maintenance of major infrastructure projects including roads and flood mitigation.

Wishnu, who is former deputy head of the Public Works Agency, replaced Mohammad Fodly Misbach, who is now at the retirement age.

Deputy head of City Transportation Agency Nurachman was also promoted to head of the agency, replacing Rustam Effendy Butar- Butar, who will also retire.

Sutiyoso, however, promoted Bambang Gardjito, who is currently being investigated by police for allegedly forging the signature of Deputy Governor Fauzi Bowo in order to issue taxi permits.

Bambang was promoted from his previous position as head of the business division at the City Transportation Agency to become head of the TransJakarta Busway Management company, and he will be responsible for the operation of all busway corridors in the city.

Sutiyoso said that he would immediately replace Bambang if he was proven guilty of forging Fauzi Wibowo's signature.

Other officials who retired on Thursday included assistant to the city secretary for economic affairs Mak'mun Amin, head of City Asset Bureau Khairul Ishak Mahadi, head of City Cemetery Services Emilson Bachtiar and head of TransJakarta Busway Management Irzal Z. Djamal.

Speaking during the inauguration ceremony, Sutiyoso said he would assess seriously the performance of all new officials in the first six months in their offices.

He said that the assessment was needed to for internal monitoring if they strayed from the guidelines, which have been set for all officials of the city administration.

The governor stressed that new officials should stay away from any corrupt practices because he would take stern actions against officials proven to be involved in corruption.
