Governor reelection postponed indefinitely

BANDARLAMPUNG, Lampung: New elections for the posts of Lampung governor and deputy, which were to be held last Saturday, have been postponed indefinitely after a council faction fielding candidates asked for more time.

The Nationhood faction canceled their nomination of governor Oemarsono and vice-governor Ismet Roni on Saturday, saying it "needed more time to decide on the candidacy."

Election rules say there have to be at least two pairs of candidates for an election to be held. The new elections came after former governor Alzier was ousted for his involvement in an alleged graft case last year. -- JP
