Governor Palaguna wins another term
UJUNGPANDANG, South Sulawesi: Incumbent Maj. Gen. (ret) H.Z.B. Palaguna won the majority of votes in the governor election at the provincial legislative council here yesterday.
If approved by President Soeharto, he will serve another term beginning next year to 2003. Palaguna's current term will expire on Jan. 19, 1998, and he will be sworn in for his second term the following day.
Palaguna won 33 votes, while his competitors H. Rady Gani -- the rector of Hasanuddin University -- won eight and H. Masnawi, currently vice governor, won four votes respectively.
The election proceeded orderly under tight security, and was presided over by chief councilor H.M. Amin Syam.
The press was barred from entering the council hall and could only observe the proceedings from behind a glass wall. (37)
