Governor OKs quizzing of councillors

CIREBON, West Java: Governor Danny Setiawan said he had given approval for an investigation of 30 councillors in Cirebon over allegations they misused the city's budget.

The governor said he would not stand in the way of prosecutors in Cirebon investigating the alleged graft.

"We fully throw our weight behind the prosecutor's office in handling this case, so that it can be resolved soon and the city council can resume its normal activities," he said here.

Besides the 30 councillors, former Cirebon mayor Laksamana Suriatmadja is also a target of the investigation. The councillors and the mayor are suspected of misusing Rp 1.3 billion from the 2001 city budget. -- Antara
