Governor gives aid for new dorm

JAKARTA (JP): Governor Sutiyoso on Tuesday handed over Rp 500 million (US$58,140) in aid to help finance the construction of a new students' dormitory at the Syarief Hidayattulah State Academy of Islamic Studies (IAIN) in Ciputat, South Jakarta.

The aid is part of the Rp 1 billion fund allocated from the city budget for the building of the dormitory.

The aid was received directly by IAIN's rector Azyumardi Azra at the governor's office.

The rest of the fund will be disbursed gradually until the completion of the construction.

"I hope the fund can be of help to the institution because it was very embarrassing for me when I saw the current dormitory and learned that many foreign students also stayed in there," Sutiyoso said in his speech.

Azyumardi said the institute will benefit greatly from the fund and from the building of the new dormitory. (dja)
