Governor demands contingency plan

SAMARINDA, East Kalimantan: Regents and mayors in the province should prepare contingency plans to anticipate the late arrival of ballot boxes from Jakarta, East Kalimantan Governor Suwarna AF said.

Suwarna has asked the central General Elections Commission (KPU) to send the province ballot boxes by the end of February at the latest.

"If they can't do it, then we should produce ballot boxes ourselves. The election in the province cannot be delayed," said Suwarna.

The ballot boxes had to reach polling stations at least 10 days before general election was held, he said. The elections for the legislature will be held on April 5.

According to data from the East Kalimantan KPU, the province will have 7,235 polling stations. Each polling station has four ballot boxes and one polling booth.

The province has 13 mayoralty and regency governments. -- JP
