The Public Works Ministry and a number of investors signed contracts Monday for the development of seven sections of expressway totaling 155 kilometers in length.
The expressways are located in Java and Sulawesi, and will be constructed at a combined cost of Rp 13 trillion (US$1.4 billion).
The ministry said in a press statement that the turnpike projects were part of the government's plan to build 1,693 kilometers of toll road between 2005 and 2009.
The seven turnpike projects are:
The 14.70-kilometer Cinere-Jagorawi section in Greater Jakarta, which will cost Rp 1.7 trillion and be developed by PT Translingkar Kita Jaya.
The 11.60-kilometer Makassar Section IV in South Sulawesi, which will cost Rp 440 billion and be developed by PT Jalan Tol Seksi Empat.
The 21.70-kilometer Depok-Antasari section in Greater Jakarta, which will cost Rp 2.3 trillion and be developed by PT Translingkar Kita Jaya.
The 34-kilometer Kanci-Pejagan section, which will cost Rp 2.1 trillion and be developed by PT Semesta Marga Raya.
The 30-kilometer Pandaan-Malang section in East Java, which will cost Rp 2.9 trillion and be developed by PT Setdco Intrinsict Nusantara.
The 11-kilometer Bogor Ring Road in West Java, which will cost Rp 1.6 trillion and be developed by PT Jasa Marga.
The 32-kilometer Gempol-Pasuruan section in East Java, which will cost Rp 1.8 trillion and be developed by PT Jasa Marga.
According to the ministry, the construction of the seven sections will start early next year and they are all expected to enter into operation in 2009 or 2010.
The agreement on the seven projects is the second such deal signed recently by the government. On Apr. 6, the ministry signed a contract for the construction of a toll road linking Mojokerto and Surabaya in East Java.
