Government sets toll road fees
Government sets toll road fees
Fabiola Desy Unidjaja, The Jakarta Post, Jakarta
The government has set the fees for newly completed sections of
the Jakarta outer toll road and increased the fees on those that
connect the capital with West Java province.
According to the three presidential decrees signed by
President Megawati Soekarnoputri on Wednesday, the newly built
road sections are parts of the Jakarta-Cikampek-Purwakarta-
Padalarang highway and the Jakarta Outer Ring Road (JORR)
projects.
Deputy Cabinet Secretary Erman Rajagukguk told The Jakarta
Post the decrees were signed just a few hours before New Year.
The last section of the JORR megaproject was completed with
the construction of the 3.4-kilometer (km) route between Pondok
Pinang to Veteran and the 4.5-km section linking Taman Mini
interchange and Jatiwarna, East Jakarta.
Presidential Decree No. 107/2003, effective on Thursday, sets
the fee from Veteran to Jatiwarna at Rp 7,000 (82 US cent) for
jeeps, sedans and small buses and trucks, while from Pondok
Pinang to Jatiwarna it is Rp 6,000 for the same categories of
vehicle.
The first part of the JORR was constructed in the early 1990s
by companies owned by former president Soeharto's eldest daughter
Siti Hardijanti Rukmana.
The highway encircles the capital and is meant to provide an
alternative route for trucks and other large vehicles so that
they do not enter the city on their way to and from Tanjung Priok
seaport in the north of Jakarta.
Another Presidential Decree, No.105/2003, says the 12.5-km
section between Dawuan and Sadang, West Java, and the five-km
route linking Padalarang and Cikamuning, also in the province,
are parts of the toll road connecting Jakarta and West Java.
The two sections are part of the planned 59-km highway between
Cikampek and Padalarang, which will shorten the journey time from
Jakarta to the West Java capital, Bandung.
The Cikampek to Sadang route is the extension of the Jakarta
to Cikampek toll road, with the fee set at Rp 11,500 for jeeps,
sedans and small trucks and buses, between Jakarta and Sadang.
Along with the two decrees, Megawati also signed Decree No.
106/2003, which raises the toll fee between Jakarta and Cikampek
from Rp 6,000 to Rp 8,000 for the same categories of vehicle.
