Good analysis

I read with keen interest the two feature articles by Dr. Thee
Kian Wie titled Why the West grew rich as the rest grew poor,
which appeared in The Jakarta Post edition of Sept. 21, 1999 and
Sept. 22, 1999. The critical review and analysis of David Landes'
latest book, The wealth and poverty of nations -- Why some are so
rich and some so poor, deserve congratulations and a pat on the
back.

I was highly impressed with the analysis, particularly when
Dr. Thee linked it with the current Indonesian economic crisis.
However, the policy's challenges, opportunities and weaknesses
pointed out in the articles can provide a good lesson to our
policy elites in many developing countries. Cheers and keep it
up!
