Golkar warned against collusion
JAKARTA (JP): Speaker of the House of Representatives Wahono yesterday called on the ruling Golkar political organization to be consistent in supporting the promotion of deregulation and the reforming of the bureaucracy and the legal system.
"Golkar should also do away completely with collusive practices," said Wahono who represented the Golkar faction at the House, at the opening of the second session of the 1994-1995 period.
Golkar, he added, should shun unethical and immoral business practices such as monopoly, oligopoly and other similar forms of unfair practices not conducive to the public's interests.
"As the largest socio-political force playing a pivotal role in development to create a just and prosperous society, Golkar is duty bound to step up participation in the process," added Wahono, formerly the general chairman of Golkar.
In his view, Golkar as the pioneer of reform and development, is required to champion the development of democracy based on the Pancasila state ideology.
Wahono reiterated the appeal to Golkar of its chief patron Soeharto, to strengthen the spirit of solidarity and unity.
"This spirit obviously runs against the actions of some bureaucrats in evicting people from their land without prior consultation," he pointed out.
Wahono therefore reminded Golkar of the commitment stipulated in its recent political statement to consistently and indiscriminately deal firmly with any of its cadres found participating in corruption, collusion, manipulation and other undisciplined acts that are detrimental to public interest.
"The people earnestly hope for the implementation of the Golkar political statement in all aspects of their livelihood, nationhood and statehood," he said. (vin)
