Golkar politicians to form union

JAKARTA: Senior politicians from the Golkar Party are preparing a mass organization outside the party's structure, which will aim to reunite current and former Golkar members.

Senior Golkar member Pinantun Hutasoit said on Friday the formation of United Golkar has won a wide support from current members and those who have moved to other parties.

He said the organization would not emerge as a splinter group of Golkar but become a bridge between all alumni of the party who have so far had no time to communicate with each other.

"The poor communication was reflected by the government's persistence of raising fuel prices and Golkar's endorsement despite a nationwide protest," Pinantun said.

Golkar is chaired by Vice President Jusuf Kalla.

Pinantun said the new organization would be officially declared in six months. --JP
