Golkar mass tear PDR flags

MATARAM, West Nusa Tenggara: The sixth day of the campaign season here got off to a tense start on Tuesday when a group of people clad in Golkar Party attributes tore flags apart belonging to People's Sovereignty Party (PDR).

The incident came just after the group left an outdoor rally held by Golkar's Central Lombok branch in Praya square. The motives behind the violent conduct were not immediately known, but the case has been reported to the local elections supervisory body.

A mass brawl between supporters of the two parties would have flared up had security forces come late to the scene. PDR supporters also campaigned on Tuesday.

Earlier on Monday, a group of Golkar supporters and their Crescent Star Party counterparts caused damages to banners and other attributes belonging to rival parties in Central Lampung. (29)
