Golkar insures supporters

YOGYAKARTA: The dominant political party, Golkar, has insured
its leaders and thousands of supporters involved in the election
campaigns, a local party official said Saturday.

Joyokusumo said the move was aimed at creating a sense of
security in every Golkar official and activist during the
electioneering.

Joyokusumo said the insurance was also meant to show Golkar's
commitment to protecting its supporters. He did not elaborate on
the insurance scheme.

Meanwhile, Yogyakarta Sultan Hamengku Buwono X has promised to
appear in every Golkar campaign in the city, Antara reported.

The Sultan, who holds no formal political power in the local
administration, is a senior Golkar functionary. (pan)
