Golkar gets the blame

KENDARI, Southeast Sulawesi: Local elementary school teachers have had their salaries deducted by another Rp 6,000 per month on top of other deductions, this time to pay their membership dues to Golkar, the ruling political organization.

The teachers said their meager salaries have already been subject to a number of deductions, including Rp 6,500 for uniforms and Rp 30,000 to finance the trip by local representatives of the Teachers Union (PGRI) to attend their congress in Jakarta last month, according to Antara.

The local education office confirmed the additional Rp 6,000 deduction, saying that the teachers have not paid their membership dues for the last five years. (rid)
