Golkar expects absolute victory
DILI: Golkar leaders in East Timor have set a target of 87.5 percent of the seats in the provincial legislative council in this year's general election.
Local Golkar chief Armindo Soares said yesterday he expected all or at least 80 percent of young East Timorese would vote for Golkar in the May 29 election.
"We are determined to perform better in this year's election than we did in 1992," Armindo said when opening a course for 250 Golkar campaigners.
Local Golkar has won all three general elections since 1982, when it won 99 percent of the legislative seats. In 1987, its win dropped to 93 percent of the vote and further plummeted to 82 percent in 1992. (33)
