Golf tourney raises Rp 305m

BOGOR, West Java (JP): Over Rp 305 million (US$35,000) was raised on Friday during the 3rd Annual Charity Planet Hollywood- DHL golf tournament at the Rancamaya golf and country club in Bogor.

Planet Hollywood's public relations manager Wiwin Erikawati said the money will be donated to the Indonesian Childhood Cancer Foundation (YOAI).

"We are glad we were able to achieve this amount, which is double our earlier estimation of Rp 150 million," said Wiwin, adding that the money would be used to purchase medical supplies for children suffering from cancer.

The funds were raised from the entry fee for the tournament, which was Rp 550,000 per person, and an auction.

Last year, the tournament generated Rp 165 million.

More than 150 golfers, mostly expatriates, from 60 private companies joined the one-day tournament.

YOAI chairwoman, Ira Soelistyo, said cancer treatment costs between Rp 40 and 80 million per person. She brought with her two five-year-old boys who suffer from cancer, Ahmad Damiyati and Yunga, who need money to pay for chemotherapy treatment.(ivy)
