Golf club holds tournament

JAKARTA (JP): The Imperial Golf Club at Lippo Karawaci in Tangerang will hold the St. Andrews International golf tournament starting on Monday until Friday, the club's spokeswoman said.

Perucha Hutagaol said on Friday that the five-day tournament was held to commemorate the Jakarta Highland Gathering.

"This is the first time we have held such a tournament. If it is a success, we plan to hold it annually," Perucha said.

She added that the club was expecting 100 golfers daily for the tournament, with the highest number expected on the closing day on Friday.

"Since many golfers are busy with their work, we cannot expect that all 100 golfers will participate. Our target is at least 50 people." She expected locals and Japanese and South Korean expatriates

The golfers will vie for the St. Andrews trophy, cash and prizes of electronics goods, tickets from Thai Airways and a green fee voucher.

Club general manager Keith A. Hardman is scheduled to open the tournament on Monday. (lnt)
