GM Corke levels score with Irene

JAKARTA: Hong Kong's Anya Sun Corke defeated local chess prodigy Irene Kharisma to level their best-of-six game showdown in Kelapa Gading, North Jakarta, on Monday evening.

Corke, at 15 the world's youngest female grand master, won in 65 moves using an English game in a contest lasting almost four hour.

FIDE Master Irene 13 had stopped Corke in their match on Sunday in 24 moves using the Slav defense. They had drawn 1-1 in the opening games on Saturday.

The winner of the series will receive US$1,000, with the runner-up receiving half the amount.
