Global cabling system company eyes Indonesian market

The Jakarta Post, Jakarta

Seeing the low level of investment in cable channeling infrastructure in Indonesia, an American company specializing in cabling systems and connectivity solutions sees an opportunity to expand in the country by promoting a new cabling solutions technology.

Systimax Solutions, which has provided structured connectivity solutions and services for 120 companies worldwide, introduced to Indonesia on Monday the Gigaspeed X10D Solution, a technology able to support demanding applications such as high-resolution video, grid computing and storage area network (SAN).

"We think Indonesia is lacking investment in cabling system infrastructure. The country's total cabling market reaches only US$6 million a year.

"This is too small for a country with more than 200 million people," said the vice president and managing director of Systimax Solutions for Asia Pacific, Ispan Kandasamy.

"Hopefully with this new technology, Indonesia will be able to improve the infrastructure, as well as to attract more foreign investors. We're confident that Indonesia provides a good opportunity for enterprise infrastructure," he said.

According to a recent survey by BRSIA, a market research firm focusing on market data for cable infrastructure, Indonesia's 2004 cabling market reached $6.9 million, second lowest among Indonesia, Australia, China, Hong Kong, India, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore, South Korea and Thailand.

BRSIA forecast that Indonesia's cabling market was likely to increase by an annual rate of 9.2 percent from $7.5 million in 2005 to $8.5 million in 2007.

"The company (Systimax Solutions) has acquired a 30 percent share in the worldwide cable solution market," said Ispan, adding that most of the company's customers were from the oil and gas, tobacco, manufacturing and financial businesses industries.

Systimax Solutions technical director for the Asia Pacific, Russell Julius, said to be able to use the GigaSpeed X10D technology, companies needed high bandwidth applications, multisite collaboration and streaming media.

"These companies need to take technical training for about three to four days," he said.

Besides Systimax Solutions, cabling solutions are also offered by, among others, Krone of Australia and Belden Cdt and Siemon of the U.S. (001)
