Girl orphaned after tragic crash

SEMARANG: A couple died on Friday afternoon after a cargo train hit a truck at a railway crossing in Boji village, Pemalang.

The couple's infant daughter, however, survived the incident, Central Java Police spokesman Lt. Col. M. Ramlie said on Saturday.

"The crossing guard had left the train gate open when the crash took place. The train inevitably crashed with a truck, which later hit the couple who were riding a motorbike next to it," he said.

The couple, identified as Sukadi, 36, and Winggarsih, 29, were both residents of Gondang village in Pemalang. Their daughter Endah Sufi, 3, survived the accident without a scratch.

Police detained on Saturday the train crew, the crossing guard and the truck driver for questioning. (har/edt)
