Ginandjar learns 'dangndut' dancing

TASIKMALAYA, West Java: State Minister of National Development Planning Ginandjar Kartasasmita is proud of learning how to dance yesterday to Dangndut music, often sneered at as music for poor people with no taste.

After addressing a huge Golkar rally, Ginandjar joined a crowd dancing on the stage to a live performance by local musicians.

"This is the first time that I have learned to dance," he told The Jakarta Post afterwards.

Ginandjar arrived at the rally one and a half hours late but Golkar supporters waited patiently at the venue thanks to blaring Dangndut music. (ahy)
