Gift makers profit from fairs

JAKARTA (JP): Indonesian gift and craft merchants have booked US$7.67 million in transactions at recent trade fairs in the United States and the United Kingdom.

The National Agency for Export Development (NAFED) said yesterday 31 Indonesian companies participated in the California Gift Show in Los Angeles from Jan. 17 to Jan. 20.

They sold items including wood products, ceramics, metal and leather products, office goods, children's ethnic clothes and jewelry, the board said.

Twelve Indonesian companies participated in the Birmingham International Spring Fair from Feb. 1 to Feb. 5.

The merchants promoted items such as wood and rattan products, ceramic and stone products, toys and leather bags, it said.

Some of the companies are reportedly planning to continue networking for more sales following their deals made during the fair. (das)
