Indonesian Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka discussed several areas of strengthened cooperation across various sectors during a meeting with Laos Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Thongsavan Phomvihane at the Vice Presidential Palace in Jakarta on Tuesday (5/5/2026).

Gibran and Thongsavan also addressed cooperation in tackling scam or fraud crimes in both countries during the meeting.

“Security cooperation, particularly in facing international crime networks and specifically those related to scam issues,” said Deputy Foreign Minister Anis Matta after accompanying Gibran in the meeting with the Laos Deputy PM on Tuesday.

“Besides Cambodia, Laos also has many Indonesian citizens involved in these cases, so developing this cooperation in intelligence and security is very important for us to enhance,” he said.

In addition to discussing scam crimes, Anis revealed that strengthening investment cooperation in the fertiliser sector was also addressed in the meeting.

In particular, Indonesia imports potash raw materials from Laos for domestic fertiliser needs.

“Thus, the government intends to invest in Laos through PT Pupuk, cooperation in this industrial field,” he stated.

According to him, the plan to build this factory is currently in the exploration stage.

“Yes, one of them is to reduce dependence on raw materials available in Laos; one investment opportunity we need to explore is establishing a fertiliser plant there to reduce raw material costs,” said Aminuddin.
