Get license in hours: Police

JAKARTA: Residents of Jakarta, Depok, Tangerang and Bekasi can
now get expect to get a driver's license within hours thanks to
police efforts to obtain certification for better services to the
public (ISO 9001).

The head of the driver's license subsection with the city
traffic police, Comr. Teddy Minahasa, said his office was
improving services to the public, including shortening the time
spent issuing driver's licenses, cutting red tape and introducing
quality services.

"We started the improvements early in June. We will undergo an
audit in November or December in order to get ISO 9001
certification," he said over the weekend.

Officers in his office are now required to work with
standardized services and reduce the time spent on obtaining a
license and introduce itemized pricing for services.

A new driver's license will cost Rp 75,000 and renewals Rp
60,000.

"Other fees, like for insurance, health tests, are optional,"
he said, adding that a license should be processed within hours.
