German company to manage waste

PALEMBANG: A German company specializing in converting waste into energy is showing interest in investing US$100 million to manage Palembang's garbage.

Municipality spokesman Thamrin said on Friday Germany-based Waste Energy Action SA. Conversation System planned to turn solid waste into gas and then into electricity.

Organic waste would be turned into compost and water, he added.

Several locations considered ideal for the project include the Sukawinatan and Gandus dump sites. The administration is still studying the offer, Thamrin said. -- JP
