Geophysicists meet in Yogya
YOGYAKARTA: Some 1,000 geophysicists are currently attending the annual scientific meeting of the Indonesian Geophysics Experts Association, which began in Yogyakarta yesterday.
Association chairman Pertangkuhen Manik said that, apart from exchanging information and selecting a new chairman, the three- day meeting will focus on improving the study of geophysics in the national curriculum.
The aim is for Indonesia to "produce geophysicists of the same caliber as those graduated overseas," Manik said, as quoted by Antara.
Manik said that one of the weaknesses of the current education system was a lack funding and equipment necessary for students to conduct field research.(mds)
