General favored for governorship
MANADO, North Sulawesi: All four factions in the North Sulawesi Legislative Council have nominated Maj. Gen. E.E. Mangindaan, the current chief of the Army Staff and Command College, for the governorship, Antara reported.
Brig. Gen. Rolly Tanos, the chairman of the dominant Golkar faction, said that Mangindaan nomination has the support of the House.
Rolly admitted that so far the Armed Forces Chief has not indicated whether or not he is willing to relieve Mangindaan from his current post but stressed that this is the wish of the people in the province.
He added that Golkar is also nominating four other alternatives to the General. They are R.S. Tangkudung (rector of Sam Ratulangi University, Hengky Luntungan (a businessman), E. Posumah (Head of the North Sulawesi Traffic Office) and Abdullah Mokoginta (a member of the House of Representative and former vice governor of North Sulawesi). (emb)
