Gedung Kesenian gets aid

JAKARTA: In a bid to boost the image of Jakarta Playhouse (Gedung Kesenian Jakarta) as the center of art performances in the capital, the Japanese government provided on Tuesday a cultural grant in the form of a stage lighting system.

The donation, worth around 42.2 million yen (Rp 3.8 billion), was handed over by Japanese Ambassador Yukio Takeuchi to Jakarta Governor Sutiyoso.

The lighting system includes a full memory lighting control console, dimmer cabinet, par light and a color changer.

Sutiyoso told reporters he would request the Gedung Kesenian management to instruct their employees to learn how to operate and maintain the lighting system.

"It is sophisticated equipment. We should know how to maintain it, not only how to operate it," he remarked after the ceremony.--JP
