Gedung Kesenian features wayang show

JAKARTA: The Kunti Nalibroto wayang group, with an all-woman
cast, will perform for the first time at Gedung Kesenian (Jakarta
Playhouse), Central Jakarta, on Thursday evening.

The performance is among a string of events held in the
capital to celebrate the 18th anniversary of Gedung Kesenian.

The ensemble of traditional dance and storytelling titled Dewi
Kunti (Goddess Kunti) tells the life of the mother of the five
Pandawa (five knights) in the Indian epic Mahabharata.

"We established the wayang group in a bid to preserve the
culture we want to bequeath to our children," group chairwoman
Ratih Dardo Subroto said in a statement made available to The
Jakarta Post on Wednesday. -- JP
