GE hands over bursary funds
JAKARTA: The GE Foundation, which is owned by giant U.S.
conglomerate General Electric, handed over US$66,000 to fund
bursaries for Indonesian university students on Tuesday.
Irid Agoes, the director of the Indonesian International
Education Foundation (IIEF), received the bursaries from Stuart
L. Dean, GE's Southeast Asia President, during a ceremony held at
the Meridien Hotel, Jakarta.
The bursaries will be awarded to 16 students from various
universities in the country to enable them to continue their
studies. The bursary program has been running for five years and
the company's foundation has to date disbursed US$355,438 to 66
Indonesian students to allow them to take undergraduate and
postgraduate degrees.
Dean said that the objective of the program was to support the
country by educating its people and develop its human capital.
GE is a multinational company that operates in over 100
countries, whose products range from aircraft engines to medical
equipment. It has been operating in Indonesia since 1970.-- JP
