Gate collapses at packed rock concert

SURABAYA: The gates of a concert venue at the August 17, 1945 University collapsed here on Saturday as thousands of people tried to force their way into an already packed rock concert.

Antara reported on Sunday that some 4,000 people failed to enter the main plaza of the university to watch a live concert by popular rock group Dewa 19.

Organizers only prepared some 6,000 tickets for the event which were sold at Rp 15,000 each.

It was not known whether there were any injuries sustained in the incident. Dozens of female fans fainted during the concert, the news agency said. (byg)
