Garuda to add flights

JAKARTA (JP): National flag carrier Garuda Indonesia is to operate additional flights to seven destinations from the capital, in anticipation of a 10 percent increase in the number of passengers during the Idul Fitri holiday.

Garuda General Manager Maladin said Friday the airline would add flights to Denpasar (Bali), Yogyakarta, Pontianak (West Kalimantan), Padang (West Sumatra), Palembang (South Sumatra), Surabaya (East Java) and Semarang (Central Java) on Jan. 24 to 28.

The holiday, which is estimated to fall at the end of this month, is the peak traveling season in the mainly Moslem populated country.

The airline estimated that passengers back to Jakarta would reach its peak on Feb. 1 to 5. (das)
