'Garimpeiros'

I agree with Mr. Wahyu's suggestion ('Diggers' not miners,
April 23, 1997) to refer to Kalimantan miners as gold diggers or
garimpeiros.

They may not feel very comfortable being referred to as miners
in the light of the recent well-publicized misunderstanding of
the mining profession and industry at large.
