Garbage pollutes catchment area

BEKASI: Local residents have complained about the stench from garbage dumped on a 3,000-square-meter water catchment area on Jl. Cikunir Raya.

Nobody knows who turned the water catchment into a dump, but residents are claiming that people arrive by car to dump rubbish there.

Bekasi councillor Qisas Rachman said the local administration should take action against those polluting the water catchment.

"We urge Mayor Akhmad Zurfaih not to ignore this matter, as well as have the area cleaned up," he said as quoted by Antara on Friday.

He also said the mayoralty should evict illegal squatters along Jl. Cikunir Raya. --JP
