Garbage investors shortlisted

JAKARTA: City Sanitation Agency head Ramaboedi said on Wednesday that the administration was studying proposals by five investors who were serious about investing money in waste projects in the capital.

The investors are local and foreign companies, he said.

The investors have been selected from at least 123 companies that submitted proposals to the agency.

The administration has intensified efforts to cope with waste problems following the House of Representatives' recommendation that the garbage dump that Jakarta uses in Bojong, Bogor, be closed as demanded by locals.

"We know we can no longer rely on the Bantar Gebang dump in Bekasi to accommodate the city's 6,000 tons of daily waste. We need plants to treat our waste," Ramaboedi said. --JP
