Gandhi remembered

I refer to Chandramouli's letter, Remembering Gandhi (Aug. 14) and I joined him in the celebration of India's 50th anniversary of independence after the long and humiliating English colonization.

But it was shocking to read that Mahatma Gandhi, a man who will go down in history for his moral integrity, has been described as a half-naked fakir by Winston Churchill, who also will go down in history but for different reasons.

Mahatma Gandhi's philosophy should be taught to the young generations and if we want them to become "real men," a book like Mahatma Gandhi's as told in his own words should be available in school libraries all over the world.

Also it seems that former prime minister Mr. Chandrashekhar has called for the installation of Mahatma Gandhi's statue to replace George V's statue. I believe this would belittle the Father of Indian nation.

Mahatma Gandhi doesn't need any statue. His name is already a monument.
