Games shooters do well in Kapolri Cup
JAKARTA (JP): National sharp shooters, being groomed for the
19th SEA Games here in October, performed their best yesterday in
the seventh Kapolri Cup and 1997 Bhayangkara Cup shooting
championship.
Inca Ferry from Pelangi Club finished first in the individual
women's air rifle match after scoring 389. Yuniarti Ilyas from
Bimantara club finished second with 385 points, followed by
teammate Aurora Maris in third place with 383 points.
Coach Glenn Clifton Apfel said the three markswomen would be
teamed up for the women's air rifle team event for the Games, to
be staged from Oct. 11 to Oct. 19.
"Based on my score standard, the average point for the
individual air rifle match is 388 and Inca has reached 389, one
point higher than I expected," he said.
The SEA Games record of 390 was made by Thamyarat P of
Thailand in the 1995 SEA Games in Chiang Mai, Thailand.
Indonesia's highest score was 392 by Aurora in the 1995 Asian
Shooting Championships in Jakarta.
In the women's air rifle team event Bimantara club, consisting
of Yuniarti, Aurora and Alia Zaerina, took the gold with 1149
points.
The Cilodong club, consisting of Ayu Indradewi, Shilla
Prasasti and Suparni, finished second with 1138 points while
teammates Rosyati, Nunung Kristiana and Lidwina Esti finished
third after scoring 1137.
The national average point for the event is 1154, five points
higher than yesterday's results.
In the 1995 SEA Games, Thailand won the gold after producing
1189 points.
In the individual free pistol event, Singaporean Chia Hock San
finished first with 532 points, followed by Idsyam Kaplale from
Pop Polri in second place with 529 and Siswanto from Bimantara
club with 526.
In the team free pistol event, Kartika team, consisting of
Soleh, Sutadi and A. Mauludi, won first prize with 1547 points
followed by Idsyam, I Made Bawa and Bahrul from Pop Polri with
1544 and the Singapore team, consisting of Chia Hock San, Tan
Bian Chai and K. George, with 1521.
Glenn said the championship's first day's results were
satisfying but he expected the shooters "to break records in the
SEA Games".
The championship is used as the final selection for the Games
final team.
All SEA Games shooters will compete at the Southeast Asia
Shooting Association championship in Chinese Taipei next month.
While double trap shooters will compete at the Asian Clay
championship in Brunei Darussalam, also next month.
"Our main rivals will be Thailand, the Philippines and
Vietnam. We aim to finish second after Thailand at the Games,"
