Gadjah Mada hosts university forum

YOGYAKARTA: Yogyakarta's Gadjah Mada University is currently hosting a two-week Educational Forum of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations' University Network (AUN).

Gadjah Mada University spokesperson Suwarni said on Tuesday that the event, which began on Monday, was aimed at enhancing educational awareness among ASEAN member states.

The annual event is the realization of an agreement reached by ASEAN member states in 1995.

The University of Brunei Darussalam hosted the Forum last year.

According to Suwarni, 33 participants from 14 universities in the 10 ASEAN member states are participating.

They include the University of Brunei Darussalam, Thailand's Burapha University, the University of the Philippines, University of Indonesia, Myanmar's Institute of Economics, the National University of Singapore, Malaysia's Universiti Malaya, Cambodia's Royal University of Phnom Penh, and Vietnam's National University.

"The program is also aimed at improving the spirit of ASEAN solidarity through cultural exchange," Suwarni said.(44)
