Futures conference to be held in Bali

Commodity market players, analysts and regulators from across Asia will gather in Bali for two days to discuss important issues related to the market and its role in nations' economic development.
More than 100 participants are expected to gather for the International Conference on Futures Trading and Warehouse Receipts Financing in the Global Market slated to be held on Dec. 11 and Dec. 12 at the Nusa Dua Bali Beach hotel, Bappebti, the regulator of the Jakarta Futures Exchange, said in a statement on Tuesday.
The conference will be chaired by Tanri Abeng and Rahardi Ramelan, who are Indonesia's former state minister of state enterprises and minister of industry and trade, respectively.
Speakers during the conference will include market regulators, analysts and market players from Indonesia, Malaysia, South Korea, Taiwan and Singapore, the statement said.
In their presentations, the speakers will discuss the history and development of futures trading in their respective countries and their contribution to the economic development of the countries.
They will also discuss the function of "warehouse receipts" as receipts of maturing futures contracts.
Indonesia set up a futures exchange in Jakarta on Dec. 15, 1999. The market, which is still not so popular among the public, recorded a 650 percent rise in transaction volume to 120,773 lots last year. As of October this year, it had recorded a total transaction volume of 287,078 lots.
