Funds allocated for Depok's environment

JAKARTA (JP): In a bid to sustain Depok's environment, which is the source of water and oxygen for the capital, the city administration has decided to set aside funds for its maintenance.

Muhayat, the information division head of City Hall, said on Thursday that the administration would allocate funds for Depok from the city budget next year.

However, the amount was still being discussed.

The city will provide financial assistance on the request of Depok mayor Badrul Kamal.

Kamal said that since Depok's environment provided much of the oxygen and water for city residents, that the city administration was expected to help support the environment's maintenance as well.

He said that the mayoralty needed to spend Rp 26 billion for the annual maintenance of some 26 springs, while its yearly town budget is Rp 28 billion.

Depok, a town in West Java, is situated next to South Jakarta and East Jakarta.

Muhayat said the administration viewed the mayor's proposal as mandatory, considering that Depok is so close to the capital.(04)
