Fund-raising for violence victims

JAKARTA: To commemorate International Woman's Day -- which
falls on Monday -- a number of non-governmental organizations
(NGO) will stage an art performance at the Ismail Marzuki
Cultural Center in Central Jakarta to raise funds for women who
have fallen victim to violence.

The NGOs involved are the Jakarta Legal Aid Institute (LBH
Jakarta), the Women's Alliance for Justice Legal Aid Institute
(LBH APIK), the Women and Family Legal Aid Institute (LBH Peka),
Kalyanamitra, and Rumah Kita.

The LBH Jakarta's deputy director, Erna Ratnaningsih, said the
performance would be held at the center's Teater Kecil at about
18 p.m., and feature songs and poems sung and read by women
survivors of violence.

"We invite everybody to come to watch the performance. It's
free of charge," Erna said.

During the performance, the NGOs will hold a bazaar which will
sell merchandise produced by victims of violence. -- JP
