From corruption to extortion

From Koran Tempo

A legislator of the Justice and Unity Party (PKP) faction at the Jakarta legislative assembly was reported by the tabloid, Ambisi, to be involved in a case of corruption involving Rp 6 billion in a tire project at the supply bureau of the Jakarta administration. This report led to an extortion case and the chief editor of Ambisi, Joseph Hutabarat, was arrested by the police.

While the police should be praised for making this arrest for the sake of the law, the corruption allegedly committed by the Jakarta legislator must also be thoroughly investigated.

In this context, it is to be hoped that the prosecutor's office and the Supreme Audit Agency should be proactive about irregularities in the spending of the budget for the Jakarta administration. They should not wait to act until things become really serious.
