French Film Week at TIM

Local film critics and moviegoers will have an opportunity to watch the highly-acclaimed works of France's controversial film maker and critic, Francois Truffaut.

Jointly organized by the French Cultural Center and the Jakarta Kine Klub, the Truffaut Film week will be held at Taman Ismail Marzuki Arts Center from today to Saturday.

Among the films to be presented include Le Dernier Metro (1980) starring Catherine Deneuve, Gerard Depardieu and Jean Poiret, and Jules et Jim (1962) starring Jeanne Moreau and Oskar Werner.

Truffaut, who died in l984, was a pioneer of the 'new wave' romanticism and realism.

He began his career as a film critic and produced his first feature film, Les Quatre Cents Coups, in l959. Truffaut received a number of prestigious awards including the Prix Louis Delluc for his film Baisers Voles, and the Epi d'Or for Les Dex Anglaises et le continent. (raw)
