French artist presents sculpture

A sculpture carved in travertin (a yellowish stone resembling marble) depicting two people in love will be handed over by French Ambassador Dominique Girard to the Director General of culture Mrs. Edi Sedyawati on Thursday at a ceremony at Wisma Seni Nasional on Jl. Medan Merdeka Timur 14, Central Jakarta where it will be installed.

The sculpture, called Samara, was designed by French artist Jorge Carrasco.

The French artist held a sculpture and painting exhibition at the World Trade Center here last month.

Carrasco, who was born in La Paz, Bolivia, on May 4, 1919, is a naturalized French citizen.

The painter, who has been exposed to various cultural movements and art exhibitions around the world, came to Indonesia in December 1992, and has since been staying in Magelang, Central Java, where he has been carving stone from Mount Merapi. (has)
