France invites RI amateur boxers

JAKARTA (JP): Local amateur boxers were given a rare opportinity to enrich their skill when France invite them for an exhibition in Indian Oceania Festival, an official said on Thursday.

The festival, according to Hamdhany, chairman of the organizing committee of the Bandung-based Padjadjaran University tour, was scheduled for June 1 to 24 in France.

Hamdhanny met with deputy secretary-general of the Indonesian Amateur Boxing Association (Pertina) Didiet Soedijoto in Senayan and requested the body field its boxers at the one-month festival.

He said the boxers would play in a series of exhibition in Rouen, Le Havre and Dieppe.

"An official at the Indonesian Embassy in France had asked us to bring along four boxers for the exhibition."

Didiet said Pertina would study the invitation, but hinted that it would most likely send three boxers and a trainer, who have been groomed for the Sept. 8 to Sept. 17 Southeast Asian (SEA) Games in Kuala Lumpur. (ivy)
