Four Taiwanese ships detained

MAUMERE, East Nusa Tenggara: Four fishing boats from Taiwan with 48 crew, all Taiwanese nationals, on boards have been netted by Navy officers for illegally entering Indonesian waters, acting regent of Lembata Piter Boliama Keraf said on Monday.

"The four ships, KM Samudra Golintas 11, KM Samudra Golintas 40, KM Golintas 46, and KM Golintas 228 were noticed last Saturday by First Sgt. L.T. Bataona at the Loang beach, Nagawutun district," he told The Jakarta Post.

As none of the crew could provide proper documents, the ships were then ordered to sail to the Lewoleba pier in the district of Lembata under the escort of the local Military and police, Keraf said.

"The Lembata Police are now questioning the Taiwanese crew and examining their documents," he said. (yac/sur)
