Four students sentenced

JAKARTA (JP): The South Jakarta District Court has sentenced four National University students from five months to seven months in jail for destroying campus property and assaulting members of the student regiment.

Presiding Judge Moegihardjo said in his verdict on Tuesday that the four defendants -- Yahdi Jamhur, Reza Pahlevi, Darmawan, and Syech al Djufri -- were found guilty of destroying the regiment's post and assaulting the regiment members on Oct. 18 last year.

Moegihardjo said that the four were among the 12 students who were tried after they were arrested between Oct. 20, 1994 and April 4, 1995, when a clash between the regiment members and members of the Association of Nature Lovers .

The other eight students were cleared of any involvement, he said. (hhr)
