Four schools win green competition

JAKARTA: Four high schools in Greater Jakarta have won a green school competition and each will be given a Rp 25 million grant to help finance their green programs for one year.

The winners were Wikrama technical high school in Bogor, state high school SMU 13 in North Jakarta, SMU 69 in the Thousand Islands Regency and SMK Al Muslim of Bekasi.

"This competition is part of a program to introduce a concept of green schools to students so that the students gain awareness and responsibility about developing environmentally friendly behavior in their respective schools," said a joint statement made by the board of adjudicators on Monday.

The competition, entitled Go Green School, was organized by the Coca-Cola Foundation, the Kehati Foundation and the Center for the Betterment of Education.

Wikrama designed a three-year program to develop efforts to save ground water and electricity, while SMU 13 plans to recycle its waste and make compost. --JP.
